STRATFORD AND LADROOK MAKE IT TO LEAGUE FINAL

Monday 17th August saw the two Warwickshire Inter Club League Semi Finals taking place.  Shirley Golf Club was the venue for the first match which was between Stratford-on-Avon and Coventry Hearsall with the second Semi being hosted at Rugby Golf Club between Ladbrook Park and Harborne.

At both venues, the weather was good, albeit a little overcast at start of play with the sun even making a short appearance later, which made playing conditions enjoyable for the competitors.  Players at the end of their games all said that the courses played well and were presented well for these Semi Final matches.

The match at Rugby commenced at 9.30 with 2 matches going to the 19th before a result could be found but eventually Ladbrook Park won the tie 6 games to 1. The full results are listed below with the Ladbrook played listed first:

Sue SHORTT lost on 19th to Rahela GORDON

Dani HEATH won 4/2 against Helen PALMER

Lynn ROOKE won on 19th against Kath TERRY

Anne TAYLOR won 5/4 against Debbie NAYLOR

Janet LEES won 2/1 against Hayley DAVIES

Tina BATES won 6/5 against Rosa HANCOCK

Liz WOOLF won 3/2 against Pat MELLAND

After the match, County President Jane DENNICK announced the result after thanking the Rugby Lady Captain, Olive ATWELL for her welcome and for arranging the morning so well.  Who the other Finalist would be was not known at that time as the match at Shirley did not commence until 9.45.

The Semi at Shirley was much closer in results with an ebb and flow of wins and losses until it stood at 3 /3!!  Players number 6 had let the last players through and were therefore the last remaining on the course, but 18 holes was not enough for them to produce a result so off down the 19th they went!  Only one  extra hole was necessary for a result to be obtained and in this Semi, it was the Stratford on Avon Team who just managed to get through to the final by winning 4/3.  Again the full results are listed below with the Stratford players listed first:

Karen PARRETT won against Janice EDWARDS 1 up

Cynthia STRATEN won against Sheila BUTLER 6/5

Jane HOSKIN won against Elaine KENDALL 6/5

Kathleen CAULDERWELL won against Tina PLATT on 19th

Jackie ROBINSON lost to Lesley DUFF 3/2

County Captain Karen HEARN was officiating at Shirley with League Organiser Trisha WELLER and at lunch Karen announced the winners of both Semis and thus the Final will be held between Stratford on Avon and Ladbrook Park.  Karen thankend Shirley Lady Captain Ruth HALTER for the use of the course and for the help given in arranging this match.

The FINAL will be held at Sutton Coldfield Golf Club on Monday 28th September
