Just as the ladies started unloading their cars at Coventry Hearsall GC yesterday, 21st September, the heavens opened and rain continued throughout the competition. Despite the weather, the Warwickshire Joyce Nichol competition got underway on time with most competitors braving the elements, but with just a few coming in after 9 holes!!
The Hearsall course was in great condition with lush fairways and very fast greens, which over time collected alot of water. However the Greens staff were on hand to squeegee them in order that we could continue playing, for which the players were truly grateful.
Considerable help was given from Hearsall members during the day and they were thanked by the Warwickshire President, Jane Dennick at the Prize Presentation. The Trophies for this competition are rather special and unique in that the winners of each division have their signatures engraved on to the copper salvers. Although the scores weren't high, there was a great competitive spirit between the players to get to the winning post in this Singles Stableford format.
In the 1st Division the winners were:
1st Lisa BARTON (3) from Coventry GC - 33 points (on back 9) - pictured with Jane DENNICK (1)
2nd Jane MURPHY (14) from Coventry Hearsall GC - 33 points - pictured with Jane DENNICK (3)
3rd Yen PHAM (6) from Shirley GC - 32 points
Winners in the 2nd Division were:
1st Eileen TATTON (27) from Moor Hall GC - 30 points - pictured with Jane DENNICK (2)
2nd Rosie SKILBECK (31) from Leamington & County GC - 29 points (on back 9) - pictured with Jane DENNICK (4)
3rd Carolyn TALBOT (23) from Leamington & County GC - 29 points
CSS of the day was REDUCTION ONLY, which I must admit pleased many of the players!!
