JANUARY ALLIANCE GOES AHEAD DESPITE THE COLD

The first snow of the winter had arrived on the Sunday before the first Winter Alliance of 2016, with Whitefields course closed for the day! Everyone was on tenterhooks as to whether the competition on Monday 18th would go ahead, but with the course open, snow gone and the weather dry but very cold, the 17 pairs set off, many playing their first golf of the year.
A few moans before venturing out were heard, but after the four hours of play in the dry, with the course being reasonably firm underfoot, most of the players were pleased to have had the opportunity of playing again. The welcome soup and sandwiches on arrival into the clubhouse were enjoyed by most.
Winners on the day were the pair from Walmley Golf Club - Debbie COTTOM and Carol HAYES - who registered a great score of 37 points. 2nd place went to Val BARKER and Yen PHAM from Shirley Golf Club who came in with 34 points.
County Captain, Margaret SHEEPY thanked Jenny COOK, Lady Captain of Whitefields for the help given all day and the Management of the Golf Club for hosting this event for the County.
