Early morning frost and extreme cold awaited the early starters of the February Winter Alliance, held today at North Warwickshire Golf Club. It seemed to be a day of three in one weather types when they did get started - very cold early on, very pleasant in the sun in the middle and then a biting wind when the sun went behind the clouds! The Greenkeeper decided early morning to protect the main greens due to frost and so temporary greens were in play.
All players were pleased to get in and partake of a warm drink and other refreshments after their completed rounds. Not to be put off though, the top six returns were over 36 points, which were excellent scores on a day such as this.
Winning pair on the day in this Greensome Stableford competition were Rahela GORDON and Kath TERRY representing Harborne GC who posted a magnificent score of 43 points. Runners up were the pairing of ex County Captain Karen HEARN and Annette BUCKNALL from Olton GC with 37 points, who pipped home pairing Penny HOSIE and Anna RENELLA on countback on the back 9.
The players were welcomed belatedly, by North Warwickshire Lady Captain, Val Pinfold in just her second week of office followed by County President Jane DENNICK then thanking the club for hosting the event together with the many helpers from the Club who had assisted during the day.
