TEAM LADBROOK TAKE GROSS and NETT TROPHIES

Shirley Golf Club was the venue for the 2016 Warwickshire Ladies' Team Championship on Monday 5th September and what a day it turned out to be. After heavy rain during the previous night the course was set and only a couple of hole positions had to be changed from the plan due to water lying on the greens.
The course was playing long with the greens very fast but true and when the early scores were recorded, it became evident that scoring was going to be difficult for many. Home player, Yen PHAM set the pace with an early Nett 73 which held on for some time and was ultimately only beaten on countback.
There were 22 Teams from throughout Warwickshire participating, with 5 players per Team, each score to count in both the Gross and Nett Team prizes and how great it was to see the various Club team colours appearing around the course and in the clubhouse. In 2016, there was to be an Individual Nett prize to be awarded for the first time in many years, with players competing for the Veronica Anstey Trophy.
Come Prize Presentation at 6.30 p.m. the Clubhouse was a sea of colour with so many of the players staying to cheer the winners, which all made for an excellent atmosphere.
County Captain, Margaret SHEEPY opening the presentation thanked all of the members from Shirley who had helped out during the day and prior to the event, also thanking the Club for hosting the Championship and for the great welcome given to all during the day.
The winning Team for both the Gross and Nett Team Trophies was Ladbrook Park Golf Club, with Liz HAYCOCK, Sue SHORTT, Wendy BILL, Lyn ROOKE and Judith TURNER representing their Club. They amassed scores for the day of Gross 422 and Nett 383. These scores beat the Team from Nuneaton Golf Club who had Gross 433 and Nett 387 with Marsha BUTTON, Carole EMERY, Kelly KNIGHT, Diane McCORMICK and Rachel RUSTED in the Team.
Thus the Daisy HARTILL Trophy (Nett) and The CHIPMAN Cup will be in the hands of Ladbrook Park for the next year. Under the rules of the competition though, whilst both Trophies can be presented to one winning team, the Prize money for the Nett Winners goes to the Runners Up, in this case Nuneaton Golf Club.
The Veronica Anstey Trophy for the best Individual Nett score of the day was presented to Kelly KNIGHT of Nuneaton who won with a score of 73, on a countback from Lyn ROOKE (Ladbrook Park GC) and Yen PHAM (Shirley GC)
Well done to all competitors but particularly to all of the winners.
