What a day to play the 2016 League Final! The venue was once again The Welcombe Golf Club in Stratford-upon-Avon with the date, Monday 26th September and Tee off time 1.00 p.m. Forecast for the day looked very unpleasant and for the first 9 holes was accurate with lots of rain, wind and basically unpleasant for all. It did let up however, after most players had played 9 holes with the second 9 being played without waterproofs - but the course did play long!!
The games were matched up as follows with Maxstoke Park players on the left and Kenilworth on the right - 7 in a Team with handicaps given.

Thus in the first 5 games, shots were being given by Maxstoke players.
Kenilworth Team Captain, Liz BROWN led her team well by posting the firsy win, quickly followed by Maxstoke Team Captain, Glenda LORAM winning her match quite early. With the exception of the final match, also won by Maxstoke, all others were very close. By the 9th most had had ding dong matches and were fairly closely matched but as the holes were completed, the Kenilworth girls began to stretch ahead. By the time that 6 results had been posted, Kenilworth were standing at 4 games to 2 and thus could not lose, so County Captain Margaret SHEEPY caught up with the 2 players still out on the course and advised them that they could return to the Clubhouse.
In the Clubhouse lounge after play, League & Alliance Organiser, Trisha WELLER congratulated both teams for playing competitively but in great spirit, giving special congratulations to Liz BROWN and the Kenilworth team for winning on the day, reminding them that it had been back in 2009 when they had last won the League. Thanks were given to the Welcombe for their hospitality and to Claire BARKER who had acted as referee, fortunately with little to do!
