We had a great match versus Worcestershire at Robin Hood Golf Club. The result was 4-2 to Warwickshire.
For this match Alex Ford (Captain) lead out the team with Matthew White. Their match was very close throughout and level after 13 holes. Unfortunately they subsequently lost 2 holes, but began the fight back by winning the 16th hole.
Alex Ford sank a great 20 foot putt on the 18th green forcing them to sink a 5 foot putt to win the match, which unfortunately for us they managed to do, to win 1up.
The next match featured Oliver Clark and Sachin Kohli. This again was very close, and featured some exciting golf coming down the stretch. On the par 3 16th hole, the Worcestershire player deserved a hole in one, but just lipped out. Thankfully, Oli and Sachin kept their resolve and won on the 17th hole 2&1.
Charlie Lamb and Harry Bromwich teamed up for the first time and proved a solid pairing by winning 4&3.
Joseph McInnes and Lucas Laurie also teamed up for the first time and as members at Robin Hood were able to keep a narrow lead throughout the match. However, their match continued down the last hole, needing a half to give the team a winning margin. In the end they won the final hole to win 1 up and secure the team win for the day.
Finlay Haynes and George Halstead both played well and went ahead around the turn and achieved a good 4&3 win.
Our final pair on Edward Leyshon and Alfie Callighan could not find the form they showed in the last match and went down 5&3.
Overall, the three inter county matches have gone exceedingly well. Two matches halved and one win, so we finish the match season unbeaten!
I am very proud of the boys and their achievements which have been the result of their enthusiasm and hard work, team bonding over the season, support from the County in the form of new and attractive kit and solid back up from the Boys parents.
This is a massive step up from last year and bodes well for the future of Team Warwickshire. Well done to everyone involved.
