SENIORS LOSE LEAGUE MATCH AT WORCESTER
Warwickshire Seniors lost their second match in a week but more crucially suffered their first league defeat this season against Worcestershire yesterday, at the Worcester Golf & Country Club.
Warwickshire were looking for their third league success of the season, but came up short against a strong home team. The morning foursomes matches were closely contested with the home team being just ahead at lunch, by one point, after winning two matches to one loss with the other three being halved.
However, victories in the opening three fourball matches after lunch put paid to a Warwickshire comeback. Despite Warwickshire wins in matches four and five, Worcestershire were home and dry and in winning match six, put a more comprehensive look on the scoreboard.
The course was in very good order with many strategically placed flags on the front of the greens, making club choice difficult. The weather was kind to us and did not deliver the promised showers.
Congratulations to Worcestershire on their fine victory. They now take their unbeaten run of two wins from two matches to Moseley in 10 days time, when they host Shropshire & Herefordshire, who themselves have two wins, but from their three matches.
The final round of matches then see Worcester travel to Trentham to play Staffordshire, before Warwickshire complete the fixtures at home to Derbyshire in October.
Whilst winning the league is no longer in our own hands we have every chance of coming second, which is an improvement on last year and if the other results fall our way, we can still win the league crown.
