DAVENPORT & LUCA WIN AT LADBROOK

The Warwickshire Boys and Under 16 Championships took place at Ladbrook Park on Monday 31st July and with only the odd squall the conditions on the course were near perfect... but certainly no push over!
Over the first round there were a few fast starters, namely Coventry Golf Clubs Rocco Luca who started Eagle Birdie, and Copt Heath's Josh Kearns who was 2 under par and leading by 2 over Josh Davenport (Maxstoke Park member and 2016 Under 16 Champion) after 11 holes.
However, the scores after round one painted a slightly different picture with Josh Davenport leading with a one over par 72 and closely followed by Josh Kearns on 76 (+5).
The Under 16's Championship was more closely contested after the first round with Rocco Luca (Coventry), Theo Barnes (Stratford on Avon) and Sec Cave (The Belfry) all lying on 78 (+7) and then on 79 was Mitch Hopwood (Hatchford Brook) and Dan Withington (Shirley).
For the Under 14's age group Seb Cave lead by 4 from Chanon James (Leamington & County)
After a quick bite to eat all the players took to the course for the final round. News from the course seemed to suggest that most players were finding it a little easier in the afternoon round, however this wasn't quite true for our leaders who in their own words were 'trying my best to give it away'.
After a birdie on the 1st returning Josh Davenport to level par for the tournament, a succession of bogies brought his total score to 6 over after the 5th hole and tied with Josh Kearns. However an unfortunate double bogey on the 6th dropped Josh Kearns to 8 over and giving Josh Davenport a 3 shot lead going into the final holes which he maintained and finished on a total of 9 over par.
Meanwhile however Cameron Bridger (Marston Lakes) was having a great second round and was level par after 11 holes, making him 9 over for the Championship and close to the leaders.
However, all players scoring trends over the final holes were well matched with Josh Davenport coming out on top by 1 shot over Cameron Bridger. Congratulations to Josh on winning the Boys Championship and we wish him well in the Midland and National Champions tournaments he has qualified for.
For the Under 16's Championship Rocca Luca was the only player to beat his first round score giving him a total of 155 and taking the Championship title by 3 shots over Theo Barnes (Stratford on Avon) who was second on countback from The Belfry's Seb Cave who both finished on 158 (+13). Well done Rocco and good luck also to you when competing in the Midland Junior Champions event being held at his home Club in September.
Seb Cave continued his fine morning form in the Under 14's age group by adding a gross 80 to his morning round of 78 and won the group by 8 shots over Joseph McInnes from Robin Hood.
Joseph also won best nett for the day finishing on a total of 3 under his handicap - well done Joseph!
The top 8 available players now qualify for the Boys Matchplay Championship which is also being played at Ladbrook Park on Wednesday and Friday of this week.
The Union give a huge vote of thanks to everyone at Ladbrook Park for all the hard work and time they have given in helping to make the event the success it was.
