Monday 4th September saw the Warwickshire Team Championship held at Leamington & County Golf Club. After a poor start with drizzle and a heavy dew, the day just got better and better with sunshine for most of the afternoon. Some of the later players though played with a cool wind blowing at the end of their rounds.
The course at Leamington was presented extremely well with very well raked bunkers and greens that were rolling quite fast, not to mention the difficult pin positions! However for most of the competitors, it was to their liking as many good scores were recorded, with two excellent rounds of 70 Nett, one in the morning (Rachel SLICER WATKINSON - Shirley) and one in the afternoon round (Adelle MIDDLETON - Coventry).
There were 22 Teams competing from throughout Warwickshire, with 5 players per team and with each score to count in both Gross and Nett and they were playing for the Daisy Hartill Trophy (Nett) and the Chipman Cup (Gross) and for the second year, the Veronica Anstey Trophy was to be presented to the best individual Nett score. Prize Presentation was at about 6.15 p.m. and it was a great sight to see all the club team colours throughout the clubhouse awaiting the results.
County Captain Margaret SHEEPY thanked Leamington & County for hosting the event and then went on to thank all those from Leamington who had helped make the day the success it was, from starters to ball spotters and catering to bar staff. She also thanked the committee members from WLCGA for their hard work thoughout the day.
The Veronica Anstey Trophy was the first to be awarded and the Winner was Adelle MIDDLETON from Coventry GC, who won this prize on countback from Rachel, both having Nett 70.
The Chipman Cup, the Gross prize was won by a very strong team from Coventry GC with a total of 416 Gross with Team members of Lisa BARTON, Annabel EDMOND, Amber MacDONALD, Adelle MIDDLETON and Kathryn MONTGOMERY. Runners up in the Gross with 448 were Rugby GC.
Next up was the Daisy Hartill Trophy which this year was awarded to the home team, Leamington & County GC. with members of Jane DENNICK, Diana PHILLIPS, Tina BRUDER, Kath HOWELL and Alison McLEAN, who amassed a total of 384 Nett. Runners up with a very close second place score of 385 were Coventry GC team.
Well done to all competitors in this annual Team event and particularly to all the winners.
