The third Winter Alliance went ahead on Saturday 12th January at Whitefield’s Golf Club despite the threat of snow, which had fallen as near as Kenilworth that morning. The day was dry but bitterly cold for the 48 entrants. The ladies were complimentary on the condition of the course at this time of year, and a thank you went to green keeper Colin Wilson and his staff.
The winners with 34 points were Sue WESTALL and Jan HAINES from Copt Heath Golf Club with runners up Letty POWELL and Greta BAND from Walmley, who scored 33 points. The teams from Ladbrook, Whitefields and Rugby Golf Clubs all came close with 31 points.
Whitefield’s Lady Captain, Jenny Cook, welcomed the County President Mary Hampton, past President Elizabeth Earnshaw and all of the ladies to the Club. Mary thanked the Club Secretary Malcolm Couldwell for the use of the course on a Saturday and the hotel catering staff for providing the food and good service. Mary also thanked Jenny for helping all day and the ladies who helped on the desk Jean Simpson, Carole Dowse and Barbara Ancliff. A special thank you to Keven Kearney from the Senior Gentlemen’s section, who kindly stood out in the freezing weather to act as starter.
The County Coaching was supported again by the ladies, and £69.00 was raised by the ball sweep.
The next Winter Alliance is at Shirley Golf Club on the 4th February with the final one of the season at Atherstone Golf Club on the 4th March.
