January Winter Alliance Winners Joan KEARNEY & Jenny COOK |
January Winter Alliance Runners up Margaret SHEEPY & Carolyn TALBOT |
Following a festive break, this year’s rounds of winter alliances resumed with a trip to Whitefields Golf Club – on a truly sunny (yes sunny) day. The Christmas and New Year break didn’t stop 38 enthusiastic ladies from 19 different golf clubs within Warwickshire taking part in the competition.
Many were surprised, following the recent wet weather that the competition actually went ahead. Additionally with some fantastic greenkeeepers at Whitefields not only was the course playable but it was in the eyes of some of the competitors in splendid condition – well done Whitefields and thank you to all involved.
The format as usual, was Greensomes Stableford, which produced some interesting scores ranging from 17 – 36 points for each pair.
Congratulations go to the eventual winners, who were Jenny Cook and Joan Kearney from Whitefields, scoring 36 points including 3, three point holes
Runners up were Margaret Sheepy and Carolyn Talbot from Leamington and County who were just one point behind the winners with 35 points, gaining 2nd place on count back by 1 point from Shirley pair. They are pictured above with Bev Bates, Lady Captain at Whitefields
We would also like to mention a special thanks to all participants who helped raise funds to support Warwickshire County Ladies Golf Associations’ juniors – a ball sweep raised £40 and an additional £14 was raised through a guess the bear’s birthday raffle.
Finally a big thank you from WLCGA to Whitefields Golf Club, their Lady Captain Bev Bates and her army of volunteers who supported the day, including Bev’s Vice Captain who played the course as a marker on the day with Bev – this is very much appreciated.
The next winter alliance takes place at North Warwickshire Golf Club on Monday 3rd February
