February 2014 Winter Alliance RUNNERS UP Nicky WOODHOUSE & Teresa WRIGHT Stoneleigh Deer Park GC |
February’s winter alliance saw 40 willing and enthusiastic ladies venture to North Warwickshire Golf Club on Monday 3rd February. Leading into the event heavy rain had pestered clubs and golfers in their opportunities to play. North Warwickshire beat the odds to hold a fantastic event. The efforts of the green keepers and course manager were much appreciated and golf triumphed.
Increasingly during the day temperatures dropped and some may have thought playing earlier was an advantage, however scores remained even throughout the competition.
A charming course which is played twice as a nine hole course – but with very different tee positions on the back nine – many found the par 3, 136 yard hole 5, the easiest with hole 4, 479 yard par 5 being the hardest on the day. Scores ranged from 20 through to two pairs scoring 35 points in their Greensomes Stableford competition.
Across the competition there were:- Four birdies and 39 pars on the course, Teams apparently found the par 3’s easier and Par 5’s were the most difficult.
Congratulations go to the eventual winners decided through count back, were Valerie PINFOLD and Hilary BRAMLEY from North Warwickshire, (pictured above with Lady Captain Trish Locke, scoring 35 points including 3, three point holes, all pars on par 3’s
Runners up were Nicola WOODHOUSE and Teresa WRIGHT from Stoneleigh Deer Park (pictured above with Lady Captain, Trish Locke), who were just twopoint behind the winners with 15 points on the back nine.
We would also like to mention a special thanks to all participants who helped raise funds to support Warwickshire County Ladies Golf Associations’ juniors – a ball sweep raised £54 and an additional £24 was raised through a guess the bear’s birthday raffle
Finally a big thank you from WLCGA to North Warwickshire Golf Club, their Lady Captain Trish Lockie and her army of volunteers who supported the day includingTrish’s Vice Captain, Penny who takes over as Lady Captain next week. Club volunteers are essential to help WLCGA run these events – their knowledge and support is greatly appreciated
The final winter alliance takes place at Coventry Hearsall on Monday 3rdMarch
